Making metal cans in different dimensions

In today's competitive world, packaging is not just a simple cover to store the product, but it is the first bridge of communication between your brand and the end customer. Choosing a resistant, beautiful and standard packaging can create significant added value for manufactured goods. Meanwhile, making metal cans in different dimensions is known as one of the main needs of the food, chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and industrial industries. Metal has a special place in the world's packaging industry due to its unique features, such as extraordinary mechanical resistance, impermeability to light and moisture, and 100% recyclability. With years of brilliant experience and the use of the most modern automatic and semi-automatic production lines, Mehran canning industrial complex operates as one of the most reliable specialized centers in the field of designing and manufacturing metal cans in various dimensions. The purpose of this article is to carefully review the production processes, benefits, standards, types of consumable sheets and key points when ordering types of metal cans, so that respected producers can choose the best option for their products with an open and specialized view.

The importance and benefits of making metal cans in different dimensions for different industries

Each product has its own physical, chemical and marketing characteristics and it is not possible to wrap a single version for all goods. For this reason, flexibility in making metal cans in different dimensions is an undeniable necessity for manufacturers. When a production unit can market its product in various volumes and sizes, it will cover a wider range of customers with purchasing power and different needs. For example, in the paint and resin industries, small quarter-kilogram and half-kilogram cans are used for household purposes, while construction projects require four-liter gallons or twenty-liter buckets.

Besides volume variety, the protection of internal contents is the most important advantage of metal containers. Plastic or cardboard containers are vulnerable to pressures caused by storage or shocks during transportation, but metal cans prevent product wastage and financial losses due to their high structural strength. Also, in the process of making metal cans in different dimensions, it is possible to completely seal and make the container impervious to oxygen, ultraviolet rays of the sun, and environmental humidity, which greatly increases the shelf life of sensitive products such as food, dried fruit, saffron, tea, coffee, and volatile chemicals. Mehran canning, with a deep understanding of these needs, has developed its infrastructure in such a way that it is able to produce a wide range of sizes with the highest millimeter accuracy.

Specialized stages of making metal cans in different dimensions in Mehran can making

The process of turning a flat sheet of metal into a strong and beautiful packaging container requires high technical knowledge and advanced machinery. In the Mehran can factory, the project of making metal cans in different dimensions is carried out under the strict supervision of the quality control unit and in several engineered stages.

1. Selection and accurate cutting of sheet metal

The first step in production is to choose the appropriate sheet type and thickness based on the dimensions and final application of the can. Tinplate, also known as tinplate, is the most common material in this industry. The thickness of these sheets usually varies between 0.18 and 0.40 mm. After sheet approval, high-precision guillotine or slitter machines cut the sheets into engineered dimensions for the body, head, and bottom of the can. Accuracy at this stage guarantees the final quality of the seams and the symmetry of the can.

2. Internal varnishing and external offset printing (varnish and lithography)

Before the sheets enter the forming line, they are coated. To prevent the chemical reaction between the contents inside the container and the metal body, the inner surface of the sheet is covered with sanitary varnishes (Food Grade) or epoxy phenolic chemical resistant varnishes. At the same time, the outer surface of the sheet is decorated with the client's design, logo and brand information using advanced offset printing machines. In the process of manufacturing metal cans in different dimensions, the quality of printing and curing paint in special ovens is very important, because the printed sheet must withstand bending and stretching in the next steps without cracking or paint jumping.

3. Roll forming and body seam welding

In the production of three-piece cans, the cut sheets enter the roll-forming machine to form a cylinder. Then the edges of the sheet are connected to each other by induction or resistance welding devices (copper wire welding). In Mehran Canning, the use of modern welding technology makes the welding line very delicate, strong and completely watertight. Immediately after welding, the welding line is covered with powder or liquid varnish from the inside and outside and it is dried in the oven so that no part of the metal is exposed to rust or corrosion.

4. Shaping the body, flanging and staking

If the goal is to produce square, rectangular or fancy cans, the primary cylinder enters the expander machine to be transformed into the desired geometric shape. Then, the two cylindrical or square heads are turned outward by the flanger device to be ready to receive the bottom and head of the can. In the making of metal cans in different dimensions that have a greater height or diameter, to increase the resistance of the body against side pressures and internal vacuum, special annular grooves are created on the body, which is called beading.

5. Top and bottom production and seaming operations

Can head and bottom sections are produced separately by impact presses and Sembe and matrix molds. In the inner edges of these parts, a special sealing material called mastic or gasket is injected. Finally, the bottom of the can is assembled by the closing device on the body and locked together with mechanical claws in two steps or three steps to form a completely impermeable container.

Classification and diversity in making metal cans in different dimensions

The needs of the market are very wide and Mehran canning offers its product portfolio in various categories to meet all these tastes. Knowing these categories will help customers to make the most accurate choice when ordering making metal cans in different dimensions.

Cylindrical metal cans (round)

This model is the most widely used type of metal packaging in the world. Due to the uniform distribution of pressure in all parts of the body, round cans have a very high resistance and move faster in the filling lines of factories. It is possible to make metal cans in different dimensions in the form of a cylinder, from very small diameters (for example, 50 mm for saffron or spices) to large diameters (such as cans of tomato paste, preserves, motor oil, and cheese cans). The height of these cans can be easily adjusted based on the volume desired by the customer and without the need to change the diameter format.

Square and rectangular metal cans

Many industries such as manufacturers of edible oils, brake oils, chemical thinners, adhesives, as well as manufacturers of tea and luxury sweets, tend to use square cans. The most important advantage of designing and manufacturing metal cans in different dimensions in the form of a square is to optimize its storage space and transportation. These cans are placed next to each other inside the carton or on the pallet without creating extra space and significantly reduce the cost of logistics. Also, the flat surfaces of the four sides of the can provide a great space for displaying graphic designs and brand advertisements.

Stretchable (two-piece) and fancy cans

In some cases, the can is produced without any welding seams in the body. In this method, which is known as deep or semi-deep drawing, the metal sheet is placed under heavy presses and the bottom and body are formed in one piece (such as tuna cans, shoe wax or cosmetic creams). Also, in Mehran canning, it is possible to make metal cans in different dimensions with fancy, oval, heart or polygonal designs for gift packaging, chocolate, biscuits and export luxury products.

Application of making metal cans in different dimensions in key industries of the country

Productions of Mehran Canning move the wheels of many mother and conversion industries in the country. Examining the specialized applications of these products shows the strategic importance of making metal cans in different dimensions.

1. Food and agriculture industries

In the food industry, health and sustainability are the first words. Metal cans produced for tomato paste, compotes and preserves, tuna, pickled cucumbers and olives must be able to withstand the high temperature and pressure of autoclave (sterilization) devices. Also, for dry products such as pistachios, saffron, cardamom, tea, coffee and milk powder, making metal cans in different sizes with easy-open doors and plastic lids creates a great experience for the consumer and preserves the product's aroma and taste for months.

2. Chemical, paint, resin and adhesive industries

Chemicals, solvents, industrial and construction paints, resins and types of glue are corrosive and sometimes flammable. The packaging of these products requires containers that do not deform or puncture against organic solvents. Mehran canning uses thicker sheets and chemical resistant varnishes to make metal cans in different dimensions with pressure lids (quarter, half kilo, kilo and gallon) and screw or lock doors (ringi) which guarantee complete safety in transportation.

3. Lubricants and automotive industries

Motor oil, gearbox oil, antifreeze, hydraulic oil and grease are other products that are highly dependent on metal packaging. One-liter, four-liter, and twenty-liter metal cans with sealed lids and pipes (brushed or funneled) prevent product fraud and manipulation in the market and preserve the authenticity of the manufacturer's brand.

4. Cosmetic, health and pharmaceutical industries

Many medicinal powders, sports supplements, waxes, sprays and health creams need a dark and cool environment to maintain their chemical properties. Metal is a thermal conductor by nature and quickly heats up with the cool environment and does not allow any light to pass through; Therefore, ordering making metal cans in different sizes for these products is a completely scientific and economic choice.

Types of lids in making metal cans in different dimensions

One of the determining factors in the performance of a metal can is the type of its lid. In Mehran Canning, according to the type of product and its consumption, different lids are installed on the cans:

• Easy opening doors (E.O.E): are equipped with a metal ring that the consumer can easily open the door without needing a can opener. These doors in different sizes are very popular for food and dry fruit industries.
• Normal doors: They need a can opener to open, and due to their lower cost and high strength, they are widely used in bulk or export packaging.
• Press doors (three-piece or wick): mostly in paint, glue and chemical industries as well. Some food products, such as honey or breakfast chocolate, are used and have the ability to open and close again.
• Screw and sealed doors (pad and lock): It is for liquids, thinners and industrial and edible oils, which allows the gradual use of the liquid inside the can after opening the primary seal.
• Telescopic and hinged doors: This door model is more They are used in the making of metal cans in different dimensions with fancy use, gifts, packaging for tea, chocolate, cologne, and watches.

Factors affecting the price of making metal cans in different dimensions

One of the frequently asked questions of manufacturers when ordering packaging is how to calculate the price of metal cans. In general, the cost of making metal cans in different dimensions depends on several technical and economic parameters:

1. Dimensions and weight of the consumed sheet: The larger the diameter and height of the can, the larger the area of the consumed sheet. Also, the thickness of the sheet (which is determined based on the volume of the can so that the container is not deformed) has a direct effect on the weight and final price.
2. Order circulation: In the can industry, setting up production lines and printing machines for a specific size is time-consuming. Therefore, the higher the circulation of the order making metal cans in different dimensions, the overhead costs are reduced and the unit price of each can is significantly reduced.
3. The type of lacquer coating and the number of printing colors: Plain cans (white or gold without printing) are cheaper than printed cans. In printed cans, the number of colors used in the design and the type of internal lacquer (plain, aluminum, epoxy phenolic, once-baked or double-baked) affect the price.
4. Type of door and accessories: Choosing an easy-to-open door instead of a normal door, adding a metal or plastic handle, a ring lock, or a plastic cap on the can, each has a separate cost.

Sales experts at Mehran canning are always ready to provide free expert advice to help customers to minimize their packaging costs without quality loss by choosing the most optimal sheet thickness and the best standard dimensions.

Golden tips before placing an order for making metal cans in different dimensions

If you plan to order metal cans for your new product or upgrade your existing packaging, following a few key points can save you from making costly mistakes:

• Exact calculation of product density: The volume of the can is not always equal to the weight of the product inside. For example, a one-liter can is suitable for storing 1 kg of water, but the same can can only hold 400 grams of vegetable powder or 850 grams of oil. Therefore, before ordering metal cans in different dimensions, be sure to send a sample of your product to the factory so that the exact size of the can can be calculated along with the standard headspace. Chemical compatibility check: Clarify the acidity, amount of fat, salt, or solvents in your product to the technical unit of Mehran canning, so that the type of internal varnish is exactly suited to the formulation. Choose your product.
• Compatibility with the filling and capping line: If you buy the cans with one open end to fill and cap in your own factory, the diameter of the can must match the diameter of your capping machine. If you need to change the size, our technical experts will guide you in the field of adjusting the device or providing spare parts for the door stopper.

compatibility with the environment; The bright future of metal packaging

In today's world, where the plastic pollution crisis has become one of the biggest environmental challenges, consumer trends and international laws have moved towards green and sustainable packaging. The steel and tinned sheets used in making metal cans in different dimensions are 100% recyclable and can be returned to the production cycle many times without any loss of quality. In addition, the magnetic properties of metal cans make their separation from waste by industrial magnets very fast and inexpensive.
